5.4 Setting the Exposure Time

If you are operating the camera in any one of the following ways, you must use the camera’s

Exposure Time parameter to set the exposure time:

 the frame start trigger mode is set to off

 the frame start trigger mode is set to on and the trigger source is set to software

 the frame start trigger mode is set to on, the trigger source is set to line 1, line 2, CC1, CC2, or

CC4, and the exposure mode is set to timed

The exposure time must not be set below a minimum specified value. The minimum exposure time

for each camera model is shown in Table 8.

The maximum possible exposure time that can be set is also shown in Table 8.

This section (Section 5.4) describes how the exposure time can be adjusted

"manually", i.e., by setting the value of the exposure time parameter.

The camera also has an Exposure Auto function that can automatically adjust the

exposure time. Manual adjustment of the exposure time parameter will only

work correctly if the Exposure Auto function is disabled.

Note that on cameras delivered from the factory, the exposure auto, gain auto, and

white balance auto (on color cameras) functions will all become enabled

whenever you power on or reset the camera. This behavior happens due to the

way that the camera’s configuration sets are set in the factory. More specifically, it

happens because the auto functions factory setup is selected as the default

configuration set and the default configuration set is designated as the "startup"

set. To change this behavior, you must change the configuration set settings. For

more information about configuration sets, see Section 7.19 on page 170.
